Android in the Enterprise. It ain’t no iPhone.
So if you work for a business they might have talked about managing your iPhone or Android Phone with something called MDM. This allows your phone to be configured for access to business information like email. This has some great advantages for people, but also some problems.
Why would you want to mix your personal and business information? It is about convenience. Many people who already have a smartphone don’t want to learn a new phone, or carry two devices. So this is really a response to people wanting more ease of use.
However with that said, the experience of using an Android vs using an iPhone is completely different. The iPhone is better supported and works almost perfectly and has few issues. The android is full of uncertainty and difficulty. For example, I worked with a company and during the testing process we tested an Android phone. It turns out that LG has a different version of Android 6 than other Android phones. Since this is the case, it doesn’t work with the default policies. So an employee that has this phone will have a different experience and probably problems.
Now what if you want to use business features but have an LG? You could of course buy an iPhone. Will most people do that? Probably not. However they won’t be able to take advantage of the features of an MDM solution. Nothing is perfect and it is unlikely that the MDM maker will try to overcome this with their products.
Iphone is standardized and this makes the process of supporting it easier. In business it often helps to have a standard setup for everyone. You can do unique and custom things on your own time, but really everyone benefits from standardization. Also this report shows that Android devices have double the malware and more varieties than an iPhone. So it is a security risk as well.
Having problems with your Android at work? Get an iPhone.
